Kavana, On Top Of The Pops.
August 1998

As a teenager Kavana followed his musical dreams by
putting together a demo of his songs. He took them to the
then manager of Take That, who eventually took on the role
of Kavana’s manager himself. Kavana's first album,
"K-Kavana" brought him adoration, two top-ten singles and
an award for the Best Male Singer. He's a teen dream come
true AND he can sing, dance, play the piano and more...

Kavana live on beeb

Tara asks: "How many times have you been on Top of the Pops and what is it
 like?"

Kavana says: "This is the 4th time and it's great. It's brilliant, I love being
on Top of the Pops. I want to be on for 40 times."

Pete asks: "Where do you live now? What did you like most about growing up
 in Manchester?"

Kavana says: "I live in Manchester although I'm never there any more. I
miss it. I was very normal. I came from a very working class family. I
love going back to Manchester - that's where all my friends are."

Hurricane Bonnie asks: "What did you think when you won the Smash Hits
Best Male Singer award? Were you really as surprised as you say you were?"

Kavana says: "Yeah I was very surprised 'cause I found out the day
before that it was close. All those other guys had been around for a few
years and I only had just had my single out. It was so great though
because it was voted for by the fans."

Santina2 asks: "Was your cat Mickey happy to see you, when you came back
from Italy? Or didn't he recognise ya? Hehe... And is he still peeing under ya
 bed?"

Kavana says: "It's funny you should ask that question because I've been
looking after the house as my parents aren't home. So Mickey has in fact
peed and pooped on the carpet. He *is* happy to see me when I return
 though."

Hamburger asks: "What are the best and worst things about being famous?"

Kavana says: "Best things are travelling,
meeting great people -for instance last night I
met Prince. If I wasn't famous I never would
have met him. There aren't a lot of worst things.
It is hard work. I suppose privacy gets taken
 away."

Yeasty asks: "You have marvellously flappy hair. Is
 your mum a hairdresser?"

Kavana says: "No, me mum isn't a hairdresser. The reason mine's floppy
is because it's grown while I was away in Italy. I didn't get it cut for 3
 months."

Brit asks: "Now that you can speak the Language of Love (Italian), are you
going to use it to Sweet Talk British Girls or Italian Girls?"

Kavana says: "Yeah! I've done it already!"

D-Jay asks: "I hear you were inspired by Stevie Wonder and Elvis Presley.
What is it about them that you admire or emulate?"

Kavana says: "Well, Elvis was the one to start off the whole male idol
thing. He was the one who invented the cool male solo thing. And
 Stevie Wonder because I think he's a genius - I think he's really
 talented."

Tomb Raider asks: "Do you like the screaming girls?"

Kavana says: "Yeah. I'd rather 'em scream than cry."

Yeasty asks: "You look a lot like David Beckham. Have you felt any backlash
 after his Argentinian sending off?"

Kavana says: "No. David Beckham looks like me!"

Tattoo asks: "Tell us about your tattoo. What is it and why did you
get it?"

Kavana says: "It's a Celtic cross with a shamrock in the
miiddle of it, 'cause I had an Irish family and I'm Catholic
and therefore it's basically religion and heritage and all
that."

Star asks: "Are the rumours about you and Billie true?"

Kavana says: "No."

Karin asks: "What music are you listening to
right now?"

Kavana says: "Maxwell's new album (Embrya) and
my new album."

Janet asks: "Did you used to sing into your
miirror when you were a kid?"

Kavana says: "Yeah. Still do!"

Doorbell asks: "Many current pop stars once worked as studio tea
boys like yourself...is this the best way to get a foot in the door?"

Kavana says: "Well I must as admit I didn't actually work in
a studio. That story got made up a little bit. It does work, I
know people who've done it,"

John asks: "What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever told
a journalist in an interview?"

Kavana says: "Let me think... I can't think of any."

Sandy Frazer asks: "You seem so honest and friendly and
generally nice. What would you say was your worst quality? Did
you ever steal something or lie to your mum?"

Kavana says: "Well I do have a very dark side. I don't let a
lot of things worry me so I do suppose I come across as
easy going. I am a Scorpio though so it means I don't
reveal a lot until later on."

Jeffrey Lee2 asks: "My sister is a fan of yours, but unfortunately
she is at uni so she couldn't be here (she's bribing me to do this!)
and she wants to know when are u going to be back in Sydney,
Australia promoting your new album and information about your
new fan club"

Kavana says: "Hopefully I'll be back in Australia in the next
year. It's one of my favourite places to visit. The fan club is
being set up at the moment and information can be seen in
my new single. There's an address. Check out the website
as well - c3.vmg.co.uk/kavana"

Santina asks: "Ello Kavvy!! It's Santina here, from Holland. I met
you together with my mom remember :)) So, what I wanna ask..
In what way is your new album different from your debut album?"

Kavana says: "Hello Santina I do remember you and your
mum. The new album is just a natural progression from the
last one. It's obviously better cause I'm a little bit older. It's
much more well-produced. You'll just have to wait and see
and I will be coming to Holland to promote it."

Stan asks: "How did you do in school? What were your favourite
subjects? Did you have a band and play any instruments? I'm 15
and I want to start a band but I don't really know where to start,
can you help?"

Kavana says: "I did music at school. It
wasn't playing it was more learning
about the notes which I found a bit
boring. You should definitely get a band
together and make demo tapes."

Marilyn asks: "You reckon your 1st single
from your 2nd album will go no.1????"

Kavana says: "No. I don't think the single
wiill because it's a bit different and people need to get used
to the new style. I think there is a number one on there and
it's a ballad called Will You Wait For Me. I'm just waiting for
the right time.";

Punk asks: "What’s your idea of the perfect date?"

Kavana says: "It would be, go to a nice restaurant, have
some champagne, only a little bit of food because then
we'd go out to a nightclub. Then we'd go at about 2am back
to my house and we'd go up to my room, clean Mickey's
mess up and then listen to some cds."

Eva asks: "What Cartoon Character would you like to be, and
why?"

Kavana says: "Bart Simpson, 'cause he's cute."

Suzanne Crewer asks: "Kav, what do you really think of your
fans? So many people love you all over the world - why do you
think your music appeals to people who live in so many different
places?"

Kavana says: "I do have a lot of fans all over the world and
I'm very lucky that my music up to now has got to a lot of
people. My fans are loyal and have stuck with me from day
one. Maybe something in my music speaks to kids - I'm not
sure why, but I'm very happy. So yeah."

Brit asks: "What do your Mum and Dad think to their son being a
heart throb?"

Kavana says: "I think at first they found it a little bit strange
but now they're used to it and they think it's great."

Santina asks: "Hehe, what after shave do u use? I wanna buy the
same for me brother! :)"

Kavana says: "Aqua Di Gio."

Kav's bird asks: "Kav do you come on the internet regularly?"

Kavana says: "I haven't got the internet at home but it
fascinates me that you can talk to anybody all over the
world so when I get my own house I'll get it."

Monty asks: "Who would you most like to do a collaboration
with?"

Kavana says: "Either Madonna or
Stevie Wonder."

Boris asks: "What's the most
interesting or obscure country you
have visited and what was the food
like?"

Kavana says: "Probably Japan. And the food was all
different types. Some food was strange but I loved the
country."

Fran asks: "Are you just a regular bloke?"

Kavana says: "Yep."

Eva asks: "Have you got many Showbiz friends?"

Kavana says: "I have a lot of showbiz acquaintances but my
real friends are all normal."

Marilyn asks: "Do you like doing ballads or songs that are more
to the pop (like Aqua) side??"

Kavana says: "Well on this album it's my first big big ballad,
I'm very excited. It's called Will You Wait For me and it will
be a single early next year."

Tommie asks: "What are your plans for touring in the next year?"

Kavana says: "Hopefully we'll do my first tour next year. I
know a lot of fans have been waiting for it but the time
hasn't been right. But hopefully next year."

Maureen asks: "Your new CD. What's it gonna be called?!"

Kavana says: "It's called Instinct. It's the best thing I've ever
done up to now."

Eva asks: "Would u shave off your hair if a charity asked you to?"

Kavana says: "It depends what charity it was for."

Yeasty asks: "I am trying to gain entry into a young ladies
boudoir. As music is the food of love, can you suggest a song to
augment my seductive prowess?"

Kavana says: "Sexual healing by Marvin Gaye."

Olive Oil asks: "Why did you choose to record the upcoming
album in Italy and what was it like?"

Kavana says: "Because I wanted to go somewhere I could
concentrate on the album without any distractions and I
love olive oil."

Larry asks: "Does it bother you that you’re often dismissed as a
teeny-bopper idol rather than a real musician?"

Kavana says: "It used to because, you know, obviously you
have to release certain songs to get to a certain market. I'm
only 20 and most of the people around me are older so I've
got time. People are telling me with this single that it
attracts older people who wouldn't have been interested
before so it seems to be working."

Lilian asks: "What's changed now that you've famous?"

Kavana says: "I spend a lot of time away from home and
I've grown up a lot more than I would've done if I hadn't
been doing this job. I've experienced a lot for somebody of
my age."

Yeasty asks: "Apart from a career in music, what are your
ambitions? (I want to own an ice-cream shop!)"

Kavana says: "I would like to one day go into acting and
make a movie. It would have to be something that was
expressive. I think it would always be music but I'd like to
be in a film about music or something."

Stan asks: "Kav, do you watch any soaps? If you were going to
be on one what would it be and who would you play?"

Kavana says: "If I could act in any soap it would probably
be in Coronation Street because it's my home town."

Karla asks: "Do you plan on coming to the US in the near future,
and what do you plan on releasing here? "

Kavana says: "America is a very very important market for
me and I've been over there and I've got lots of exciting
ideas for America and will hopefully release there soon. I
want to make sure it's the right material."

kav's girlie asks: "kavvy baby who's your favourite spice girl?"

Kavana says: "I don't have a favourite. I like them all
equally."

Alya asks: "If u would like to meet any stars who would it be?"

Kavana says: "I'd like to meet Madonna, It was my ambition
from being a kid and I always said in interviews that I
wanted to meet Prince and I met him."

Ali asks: "Do you ever get like really stressed out and what do
you do to get over it?"

Kavana says: "I have some incense that I bought this year
called Nagchampa and it's got a really unusual smell and I
used to burn it in Italy. It reminds me of the sun. So that's
what I do, I light some incense and try to get away from the
world."

Boris asks: "I heard your respect for Motorhead prompted you to
embark on a singing career. How long have you been a fan and
hat attracted you to them?"

Kavana says: "Well, I had a few discussions with Lemmy
bout song writing and he influenced me to write the
opposite so that's why."

Charlene asks: "If you could ever change something in the
past,what would you change??"

Kavana says: "I wouldn't change anything because I think
that everything's a learning process except the basin
haircut I had when I was 7."

Marilyn asks: "Do you think your female fans like you because of
your looks or your talents???"

Kavana says: "If I'm to be completely honest I think it's a
mixture of the two."

kav's girlie asks: "kav are you a city or united fan?"

Kavana says: "United."

Sonic Hedgehog asks: "Why did you change your name?"

Kavana says: "I didn't change my name..my surname is
Kavanagh."

Brit asks: "Are you a 'typical' Scorpio...do you have a sting in
your tail?"

Kavana says: "Yes. Completely."

kav's girlie asks: "Kav, I saw you on mtv select the other day and
you said something in Italian. Is that all you know or are you
fluent?"

Kavana says: "I'm not fluent but I do know just like the
average hello/goodbye type words."

Lilian asks: "Do u learn to sing naturally or any special training or
classes? Your voice is great !!"

Kavana says: "Well thank you Lilian! I never learned how to
sing. No, I never had lessons. It just happened naturally."

Yeasty asks: "You must do a lot of travelling. What's your
favourite in-flight movie?"

Kavana says: "Up to now my fave movie on a plane was As
Good As it Gets on the way to Taiwan."

Merlin asks: "Do you believe in magic?"

Kavana says: "Yes. Are you the real Merlin?"

Janet asks: "Do you believe in true love?"

Kavana says: "Yes. I think when it happens it happens
because it's meant to happen."

Bob asks: "Howard Donald wrote your first single. Any idea what
else he's done in the last 2 years?"

Kavana says: "I haven't seen Howard for over a year and I
don't really know what he's doing but I wish him the best of
luck."

Vicky asks: "What sexy clothes r u wearing today?"

Kavana says: "I'm not wearing sexy clothes today, just
jeans and a t-shirt."

Yeasty asks: "Who would you like to play you in a film about you
and your life? Apart from David 'he cost us the match' Beckham."

Kavana says: "I don't think David could act my part very
well so I would choose...Well honestly I would play myself.
If I wasn't alive, Leonardo could do it."

Karla asks: "Kav, you have great personal style. Does in come
naturally or do you have help?"

Kavana says: "Nah, I don't have help. I've always been into,
you know, dressing the way I want to dress."

Boris asks: "Do you attribute any of your success to eating many
sprouts as a child?"

Kavana says: "No, but I do like brussel sprouts and I cooked
some last week."

Yeasty asks: "Your voice sounds like Angels waltzing on a
Crystal Lake. Who is your favourite singer?"

Kavana says: "Well, thank you Yeasty. Prince is my
favourite singer. Not Prince Charles."

Llucy asks: "If it all ended tomorrow what would you like to do with
your life as you're so young ?"

Kavana says: "I think I would probably take a year out and
travel 'round my favourite parts of the world. I'd like to visit
New York. I'm lucky to have a bit of money so I wouldn't
have to work for a while. Then I'd prepare for the third
comeback!"

Santina asks: "Who's your manager now?"

Kavana says: "My management company is called Native
and it's based in London."

Lucy asks: "Are you a l"adeez" man?!!! Who's you're dream
date?"

Kavana says: "My dream date would be, at the moment, the
lead singer from the Corrs."

Yeasty asks: "What do you see yourself doing in 10 years time?
Maybe presenting a 'Richard and Judy' style show with Ginger
Spice!"

Kavana says: "First of all, Yeasty, you should be on the
stage... and in 10 years time who knows what I'll be doing.
Maybe presenting Yeasty & Kavana!"

Beeb says: "...a final word..."

Kavana says: "Thanks for all the questions. I've had a great
time talking to everybody and see you all soon. Lots and
lots and lots of love, kav."
