"I would Date the Right Fan!"
You just can't open a tabloid
without finding some pop star's
love life splashed across the
page. Kav has managed to keep
clear of all that - 'til now.
Here's his kiss 'n' tell story!
Who Was the First Person you Fancied?
When I was nine I used to rush home
for five o'clock on Saturdays to see Wonder Woman on the telly. She would
take off her specs and do a little twirl, and suddenly she was wearing
those hot pants! Wahey!
Did You Fancy any Teachers?
I had a crush on Miss Pemberton.
She took our classes when our teachers were off - she also taught PE. Miss
Pemberton had very big, erm, y'know.... (Outlines a certain shapeliness)
and she wore a little gym slip too.
Who Was Your first Girlfriend?
A girl called Gill who was my neighbor's
best friend. I went with her for two weeks when I was ten. We didn't have
proper dates, but I met her in the school grounds. I had my best Holy Communion
suit on with a collar like (spreads arms to indicate a helicopter landing
pad size). In fact, the size of my collar is probably why it didn't last!
What really happened was that I passed her in the school corridor
and pretended I didn't know her. I was really cruel.
Who has been your most serious
girlfriend so far, Kav?
A girl I went to school with. We
started out as friends, then one day, ahem, we were more than that! We
saw each other on and off for two years until we left school, then she
went her way and I went mine.
Do you Regret Parting?
No, no. I do still see her, but
it's on other terms - to be honest she dumped me. She's an extrovert
with a mad sense of humor and after I got into music and because a little
bit successful she wanted to know me again. But by then I'd met beautiful
girls and had my eyes opened. It made me realize it wasn't meant to be.
Was She the girl Who You Lost
your Virginity To?
Um, No (All Bashful.) There was
someone before that! I was 16 and I went away with my mates on a trip.
I had too much shandy boozy for my first time and I was with a girl and
... it happened really, really quickly. Afterwards I was like, "Wo was
that it?" I t was a bit of a disappointment, but hey, as time goes by you
get better at these things, ha ha!
What Do You Look For In A Girl?
Obviously the face, you know, nice
skin.... eyes are important. Some girls can say things with their eyes
you couldn't probably say with words!
How Do You Flirt?
I'm good with my eyes. I'll always
try that. I'll be looking over at someone and hopefully we'll have eye
contact. I'll smile. I'd never make the first move though. I definitely
like her to come to me - I'm scared of rejection!
You've Never Chatted Someone Up?
Well, yeah, but not for a while.
If I'm in quite mature company I don't want to be seen as someone who sidles
up to girls and goes, 'heeyy!' I say, 'Hello, how are you? Are you
having a good time?' But it's not chatting up. i'll talk to anyone, me.
Have You Ever Had A one Night
Stand?
(Gasps) No, I haven't! I've never
just met a stranger and taken them home, but I have come close. I was tempted
when I was last on holiday, but I didn't see it through! Because I'm in
the public eye I can't just do it. I'm not like a normal kid who can mistakes
and it doesn't matter. I have to think of the consequences.
You had a holiday Romance?
There was lots of chatting and flirtation
but no real romance, I was to busy clubbing! They played my record in a
club and I started dancing, going, 'I know this one! It's me!'
Is The kind of girl you'd go out
with now the kind of girl you'd marry?
I hope so, that's what I'm looking
for. I feel a lot older than 19 and I look for different things in girls
than most lads my age. i've had too much too soon - traveling and meeting
loads of models and what have ya - but I look for more than that. I'm looking
for more of a soul mate rather than someone totally gorgeous.
What qualities would your Soul
Mate have?
Somebody who is like me, out to
enjoy life, doesn't let things worry them and has a good sense of humor.
but they'd also have to be deep, definitely.
What are You Going to Call Your
Kids?
Kav one, Kav two and Kav three!
I have absolutely no idea. I like the name Jesus, but I'm worried that
people might think Jesus Kavanagh was a bit over the top. Loads of people
are called Jesus in Brazil, but it's not as common in Manchester!
Would You Date A Fan?
Yes, you can never say never. I
know people in the industry who have dated fans and the relationship has
lasted. I can't say who, sorry. Someone could be a fan or yours initially,
but after a while treat you more equally. I would date the right fan.
Ever Thought you've met the Right
Fan?
In Italy I was in a restaurant with
my record company peep, surrounded by these amazing looking girls who were
looking at me. If I had been in another band who didn't care I'd have said,
'Right, Back to my Hotel.' But I'm me and I didn't. I would have felt guilty
about it the next morning.
Ooh, v grown up. Are you a grandpa
before your time?
I think I have an older outlook,
but I don't know why. I was really upset when that girl at school hurt
me. It made me question what I wanted. i was all ready to go to college
with her - thank God I didn't or I wouldn't be doing this now. Everything
happens for a reason.
Describe Your Most Romantic Moment.
There was one girl who was a little
bit older than me, about two years ago. We were out together, on the beach
that night, looking at the moon, listening to the sea and I really thought
that was it. Like something out of a film.
Where do you most like to be kissed?
Ooh, on my neck. It's very sensitive,
my neck. In fact, someone was messing about with it the other day - a friend,
who's a girl, and I thought, 'Ooh, yeah I could get used to this!' I have
a week spot!
When was the last time you had
a passionate kiss?
About.... actually.... two nights
ago!
You're seeing someone at the mo?
Not (pause) really. i've just spoken
to the girl I snogged on the phone actually. I met her at a film premiere
(The Fifth Element, atch) but it was just a snog, it's not going to develop
into anything. She loves herself too much coz she's in the the public eye,
nice to look at but too full of herself. It's a bit of fun... and you've
got to have fun or you might as well become a monk!
